Border Collies originated along the border between Scotland and England as herding dogs, bred to work sheep across hills and moorland. These dogs are universally recognized as the most intelligent breed, with an unmatched ability to read and control livestock. Their instinctive working style and responsiveness are legendary.

Border Collies are extremely intelligent, intensely focused, and tireless workers with an obsessive drive to work. They're sensitive, responsive, and thrive on having a job, but can develop neurotic behaviours without sufficient mental and physical stimulation.

These high-drive dogs need 1-2+ hours daily of vigorous exercise plus intensive mental stimulation. Without sufficient activity they develop destructive and obsessive behaviours. Basic brushing of their medium coat suffices; they're generally healthy but monitor for hip dysplasia.
