French Bulldog
About the French Bulldog
French Bulldogs were developed in Nottinghamshire, England as small companion versions of the Bulldog, but found their true popularity in Paris during the 1800s. Bred down from larger bulldogs with the addition of toy spaniel and pug genetics, they combine bulldoggy character with toy-dog companionability. Their compact size and charming personality make them perfect urban companions.
Temperament
Frenchies are affectionate, playful, and comical little dogs with enormous personalities. They're highly social, sensitive to their owner's moods, and thrive on human companionship despite their independent streak.
Care Guide
Moderate exercise (30-40 minutes daily) in cool weather is sufficient; they overheat easily. Regular wrinkle cleaning and ear care prevents infections. They struggle with breathing due to their flat face; avoid hot environments and strenuous exertion, especially in heat.
Did you know?
French Bulldogs cannot swim reliably due to their compact bodies and large heads relative to body weight, so they require supervision around water.

Common French Bulldog owner questions
Short answers for the questions new owners search most often
How much should a French Bulldog weigh?
French Bulldog weight depends on sex, frame and body condition. The age table is a planning estimate derived from adult breed weights, so confirm with your vet if your dog is gaining or losing quickly.
How often should I groom a French Bulldog?
French Bulldog grooming is usually low. Brush more often during shedding, after muddy walks, or if you notice mats forming.
What should new French Bulldog puppy owners do first?
Book a first vet visit, confirm vaccine history, keep food consistent for the first few days, and start a calm toilet, sleep and handling routine.
