About the Shetland Sheepdog
Shetland Sheepdogs were developed on the Shetland Islands of Scotland as herding dogs for sheep and ponies. Descended from collies brought to the islands, they were refined into smaller dogs suited to the harsh island climate and rough terrain. These elegant, intelligent dogs combine collie personality with manageable size.
Temperament
Shelties are intelligent, affectionate, and eager herding dogs with wonderful personalities and strong bonds to their families. They're sensitive and responsive but can be reserved with strangers, and retain herding instincts to nip at moving objects.
